Caring for your Macrame Jewellery

RECOMMENDED CARE:

  • Remove macrame jewellery before showering/bathing/swimming etc – While your jewellery will be absolutely fine if it gets a bit wet in the rain or accidentally dropped in water, prolonged or repetitive exposure to water is not recommended as it may cause the cords and knots to loosen.

  • It is also advisable to not wear macrame necklaces while sleeping; Being pulled in different directions during sleep may warp the necklace.

  • Being made of waxed cord, intricate micromacrame designs may warp (as wax can melt) if exposed to very high temperatures (for example, on the dashboard of a closed vehicle on a very hot day). Where possible keep your macrame jewellery sheltered from extreme temperatures.

The utmost care has been taken to tie all macrame jewellery as tightly as possible and a small amount of glue has been added to the more delectate aspects where useful to help your necklace maintain its shape. Being made of cord rather than metal however this jewellery does benefit from a minimal amount of your attention and care 💛

ADJUSTING YOUR NECKLACE LENGTH:

(Does not apply to choker necklaces)

The adjustable knots on most of my macrame necklaces are fastened as depicted above (but not all - if your necklace straps pull out opposite sides of the little adjustable knot like on my choker necklaces then ignore the above diagram this does not apply), this is so that the leftover cord can be easily tucked into the back of your shirt rather than sticking out to the sides.

Adjusting the necklace length using the method in the first image (left) will ensure the cord does not become twisted and that the adjustable knot stays tight. This tip is useful for any jewellery you have which has an adjustable knot fastened this way!
